Chiara investigates low-dimensional materials using density-functional-theory and machine-learned force fields, with a particular focus on vibrational properties. Her work at Harvard focuses on the corrugation of twisted bilayer graphene using machine learning techniques.

Chiara earned her PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland under the supervision of Prof. N. Marzari, followed by a postdoctoral position at the University of Bremen, Germany. During her PhD, she focused on high-throughput discovery of exfoliable one-dimensional wires, employing different techniques such as DFT, DFPT, SSCHA and machine-learning to investigate their properties for future electronic applications.

In her free time Chiara enjoys hiking in the mountains, spending time in nature, and traveling around the world; she has visited more than 12 countries so far.
