The work in my PhD dissertation focussed on chalcogenide-based *thermoelectric and topologically nontrivial materials*. I studied materials with non-trivial electronic topology using first-principles calculations based on density functional theory (DFT). Another important aspect of my thesis involved determination and analysis of *thermoelectric* properties of materials. My more recent work dealt with understanding electronic mechanisms of a new class of bonding called *metavalent* bonding and emergent properties (including ferroelectricity and metal-insulator transition) in chalcogenides.
